All children in this school have an SEMH diagnosis and, therefore, require a supportive Behaviour Mentor in order to encourage them to achieve their best. Whilst academic achievement is important, it is also important for the young people in this school to be supported in regard to their social, emotional and mental health needs. Therefore, it is imperative that the Behaviour Mentor can form good, trusting relationships with the students.

Outreach SEN Tutor / HLTA's main responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one teaching and support to children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly those with Autism, ADHD, Specific Learning Difficulties, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Visit homes and public spaces in Kingston and Richmond to deliver personalised educational support.
Work with children from challenging backgrounds and deprived homes, some of whom may have experienced trauma and anxiety.
Manage and support children with dysregulated behaviour, fostering a positive and encouraging learning environment.
Outreach SEN Tutor / HLTA's requirements:
Must have experience as a Teaching Assistant or Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), ideally with a background in SEN.
Strong understanding of the needs of children with Autism, ADHD, Specific Learning Difficulties, and SEMH.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, empathy, and a calm approach to managing dysregulated behaviour.
Ability to work independently and adapt to different environments.
A valid driving licence is preferred due to the nature of the role.
About the children:
Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD): Children with SpLD have difficulties with particular aspects of learning, such as reading, writing, or maths, which can include conditions like dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dyspraxia.
Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Needs: Children with SEMH needs may struggle to manage their emotions, experience anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues, and may have difficulty with social interactions.
