About the Behaviour Mentor / Learning Mentor position
Are you passionate about supporting young people facing significant challenges? We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Behaviour Mentor / Learning Mentor to join our friendly mainstream primary school in Merton, South West London. This role involves working with children who exhibit challenging behaviour and social-emotional mental health needs and come from vulnerable backgrounds. Some children may have other associated needs, including Autism/ASC, ADHD, and Global Development Delay (GDD),
Behaviour Mentor / Learning Mentor's key responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and group support to students, helping them to manage their behaviour and emotions.
Develop and implement individual behaviour plans tailored to each student's needs.
Build positive and trusting relationships with students to encourage their personal and academic growth.
Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to provide holistic support.
Engage and motivate students using creative approaches, such as sports, music, drama, or art.
Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback to the team and parents/carers.
Promote a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Behaviour Mentor / Learning Mentor's requirements
A genuine commitment to supporting young people from vulnerable backgrounds.
Previous experience working with children displaying challenging behaviour and social, emotional, and mental health issues.
Experience in youth work, sports, music, drama, or art is highly desirable.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

About the role
Providing classroom support
8 students per class with a minimum of 3 support staff
Literacy and Numeracy support
Building a good relationship with the child you are working with
Interacting with children through play-based and sensory-related activities
Assisting the class teacher with planning, preparing, and delivering learning activities as well as monitoring and assessing children’s achievement and progress
Managing behavioural challenges
Working closely with a multidisciplinary team including Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists.

Has experience working with children and young people with Autism / ASC
Has personal interests in supporting children and young people with Autism / ASC and complex needs
A positive, proactive, and patient individual who has a can-do attitude and is willing to learn
A team player and has great communication skills
Being able to build good working relationships with students and staff
