About the Role
Therapeutic Learning Mentor – East London - January 2025
Do you have a passion and talent for supporting children and young people with additional learning needs and mental health disorders?
Are you keen to make a difference to the lives of children and young people whilst building your experience and furthering your career in SEND/SEMH?
I am working with a specialist primary SEMH therapeutic school who are looking for an engaging and passionate Therapeutic Learning Mentor. The children attending this school will have a SEN diagnosis, EHCP (Education Health Care Plan) surrounding their social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). I am looking to speak to professional and committed Therapeutic Learning Mentors even if your experience is informal/voluntary, we want to hear from you! The provision opened within the last year and will continue to develop and grow over the forthcoming years.
The children who attend this school will often have experienced adverse childhood experiences including trauma and toxic stress and a therapeutic and nurturing approach is essential to their development. This role offers the opportunity to make a substantial difference in a child's life in a very specialist therapeutic setting.
Therapeutic Learning Mentor requirements
- Essential - Passion for working with young people who require additional support in order to access education and social development
- Beneficial - Experience of working with SEMH, trauma, sensory processing, social communication, ACE (adverse childhood experiences), toxic stress
- Beneficial - Youth Mentor/Worker experience
- Essential - Ability to build strong and meaningful relationships
What you can expect as a Therapeutic Learning Mentor
- Therapeutic Learning Mentor roles will vary from day to day, you will be expected to use your initiative and respond calmly in challenging situations
- For aspiring Teachers, Pastoral Workers, Child Psychologists, Educational Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, SALTs, Play/Art/Music Therapists, Counsellors, and Social Workers, these positions will offer relevant and vital experience for your chosen career path
- Continued Professional Development - SEND schools and APs are continually training their staff to help them support their children's needs, you will become an expert in your field
- You will have an opportunity to make a huge social impact, as a Behaviour Mentor you could change the path of someone’s life!
