About the Role
SEN Learning Support Assistant - Special School - PMLD
Location: Newham, London
Contract Type: Full-Time, long term contract
Salary: £85 - £95 per day PAYE only
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and severe learning difficulties (SLD)?
Parker Smith Inclusion are working with a special school in Newham which is part of a larger trust and they will be looking for SEN Learning Support Assistants to join their team at a vibrant and supportive PMLD school. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with experience in working with children who have complex needs and a commitment to supporting their educational and personal development.
Offering movement therapy through exercise, trampolining, large sensory rooms, hydrotherapy and access to occupational therapists, speech & language therapists and music therapy on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to students with PMLD and SLD, helping them to access learning activities and achieve their potential.
- Assist with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and mobility support, ensuring the dignity and comfort of each child.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
- Use sensory and communication aids effectively to engage students in a meaningful and inclusive learning environment.
- Monitor and record students' progress, sharing observations with the teaching team and contributing to assessments.
Requirements
- Experience: Previous experience supporting children or young adults with PMLD, SLD, or complex needs is essential.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a nurturing approach to supporting children with diverse needs.
- Flexibility: A willingness to assist with personal care and adapt to the unique challenges of working in a PMLD setting.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with Makaton, PECS, or other communication systems is desirable.
- Qualifications: A relevant qualification (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) is preferred but not essential.
