Working collaboratively with a dedicated team to support young people who schools cannot typically work with due to their significant and complex needs A thorough understanding of the statutory framework for SEND and the EHCP process Proven ability to manage a high workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment A clear understanding of the challenges faced by disadvantaged and hard-to-reach young people with trauma backgrounds Experience working in PRUs or similar alternative provision settings will be extremely beneficial Initiative, drive, and the ability to work as a senior leader A supportive and dedicated team environment. Pupils range from the ages of 7-19 and present with significant complexity and co-morbidity linked to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) including childhood trauma or secondary trauma linked to family marginalisation, loss of homes or relationships or pupil bullying and multiple exclusions. The school are seeking a Teaching Assistant – SEMH to provide full support to the students and help change their attitude toward learning. They may be at considerable risk of exploitation or been exposed to extreme violence and abuse in their homes. They need someone to help. Could this be you? They are looking for resilient and compassionate Outreach Therapeutic Mentors, your role will be supporting an extremely vulnerable young person on a 1:1 basis out in the community, maybe within their home or a local library, with the intent of helping them eventually over time become ready to be able to go into a specialist school setting and learn alongside their peers. This process starts with building a bond between you, most of these students will have gone through ACE’s (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and will have indicators of PTSD, trust needs to be earned over time. Once the trust is there you will be therapeutically supporting them with fully bespoke educational plans that suit their needs. This organisation has a high success rate in that young people are eventually are back in full time education or employment, and on top of that thriving, able to regulate their emotions and begin to process their trauma. An example of this is a young person with previous low school attendance, multiple exclusions, PTSD, and extremely aggressive behaviour. After being assigned a specialist mentor and working together, this young person has now transitioned to a specialist school, has a 93% attendance record, is part of restorative groups helping him to process his trauma and is thriving with a bespoke curriculum. About The School; We are working with a post-16 SEN school based in North London that caters for students aged 16 to 25 with an EHCP. The school supports young people with a range of SEND, including ASC, SEMH, Speech, Language, and Communication Needs, and other disabilities. They offer various programs to support these students, including a two-year Six Form for school leavers and other programmes and services. The school helps students develop life skills, embrace independence and prepare for the next steps in education or employment. Key Responsibilities: Provide classroom-based support to post-16 students with SEND. Accompany and support students at work experience placements 1 day a week Develop students' confidence, independence, and employability skills. Work closely with teachers, employers, and external agencies to create a supportive and inclusive work environment Support behaviour management and promote emotional regulation strategies.
