About the Role
Secondary Teaching Assistants (TAs) – PMLD, Autism (High-Functioning & Non-Verbal) 1:1 Support - Newham
Location: Mainstream Secondary School, Newham
Start Date: from 4th November
Contract Type: Full-Time
The School
I am working with a mainstream secondary school that are committed to support all students with a well resourced Learning Support department, there is access to counselling on site, wellbeing and behaviour support. They pride themselves on their inclusion and diversity and also offer enrichment curriculum to support students in all aspects of life.
The Role
Secondary Teaching Assistants. The role focuses on providing 1:1 support to students with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including both high-functioning and non-verbal students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored 1:1 support to students with PMLD and autism (high-functioning and non-verbal).
- Assist with the educational, emotional, and physical needs of students.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider SEN team to ensure students are fully supported in their learning journey.
- Help students with communication, including using visual aids, sign language, or assistive technology.
- Support in class and during break times, ensuring students' safety and engagement.
- Promote inclusion and positive social interaction within a mainstream environment.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience working with students with PMLD, high-functioning autism, and non-verbal communication challenges.
- Confidence in managing complex needs and behaviours in a compassionate and calm manner.
- Ability to build strong, positive relationships with students, teachers, and families.
- Familiarity with 1:1 support and the ability to adapt to each student’s specific needs.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Relevant qualifications in Special Educational Needs (SEN) are desirable but not essential.
