About the Role

Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Specialist ASC School
Location: North East London
Start Date: Immediate

Do you have a passion for supporting students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? Are you experienced in SEND settings, or currently working in mainstream education and ready to make the move into a more specialised, rewarding environment? If so, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

The Role:

We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join an incredible specialist ASC school in North East London. The school provides education for students who are unable to thrive in mainstream settings, with additional needs such as ASC and ADHD. Many of these students may be school-phobic or have been out of formal education for a significant period, making this an opportunity to truly transform lives.

Why This Role is for You:

As an HLTA in this setting, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the most vulnerable and at-risk young people in our community. These students face unique challenges, and your role will be to ensure their SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs are met before tackling academic development. Your ability to understand, empathise, and provide consistent support will make a positive impact in their lives. If you have a therapeutic, patient approach and want to work with young people who need your guidance the most, this is the ideal role for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide therapeutic support using emotional regulation and positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Be a positive role model, supporting effective communication with a nurturing and consistent approach.
  • Build strong, meaningful relationships with vulnerable students, encouraging their personal and academic development.
  • Work closely with students who may be disengaged or have been out of education, helping them reintegrate and thrive in a learning environment.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary therapy team, gaining specialist insights and training in working with ASC students.

What You Can Expect:

  • A highly supportive, like-minded team who are just as committed to the personal growth and learning of young people.
  • The opportunity to gain specialist experience working in therapeutic settings, with direct involvement in students’ emotional and academic journeys.
  • Extensive training from ASC specialists to further develop your expertise.
  • The chance to work with a multidisciplinary therapy team, enriching your knowledge and professional development.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Passion to inspire young people at a crucial stage in their academic and personal development.
  • A nurturing, patient, and empathetic approach with a genuine desire to help children succeed.
  • Experience working with disengaged young people or those with SEND is essential. However, we also welcome applicants with a passion for SEND looking to take their first step into this fulfilling field.
