We are seeking a dedicated Family Engagement Officer to join a vibrant primary school in Newham. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. By working closely with families, you’ll help them understand their child’s needs and empower them to access the right support systems with confidence and compassion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build strong, trusting relationships with families from diverse backgrounds, ensuring they feel valued and supported at every step.
- Serve as a key point of contact for parents and carers, providing guidance on their child’s SEND or SEMH needs.
- Communicate with clarity and empathy, whether through face-to-face meetings, phone calls, or written correspondence.
- Work closely with professionals such as teachers, social workers, and healthcare providers to ensure holistic and tailored support for each child.
- Offer pastoral care to families, empowering them to advocate for their children both within the school and the broader community.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create and implement engagement strategies that foster the well-being of both the children and their families.
- Attend relevant meetings and training sessions to stay up-to-date on best practices in SEND and SEMH support.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience in family engagement, communications, or pastoral support, ideally within SEND, SEMH, or family support environments.
- A deep understanding of the challenges faced by families from ethnic minority backgrounds, paired with a compassionate and culturally sensitive approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly.
- Strong team player, able to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary setting.
- A proactive, empathetic, and non-judgmental attitude, with a passion for helping families thrive.
- Ability to manage a caseload efficiently while being adaptable to meet the varying needs of families.
