About the Role
SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Large Primary School in Barking and Dagenham
Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a vibrant and inclusive school community? We are looking for dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to join a supportive team in a large primary school in Barking and Dagenham. The school is well-known for its nurturing atmosphere and has a thriving ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and SEMH specialist unit.
Role Overview:
- Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:15 PM, Monday to Friday
- Pay: £85–£90 per day (PAYE)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted support to students with SEMH needs, encouraging positive engagement and emotional resilience.
- Use a proactive approach in the classroom and around the school to contribute to a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
- Recognise that all behaviours are a form of communication, responding with patience, empathy, and adaptability.
- Work closely with teaching staff and specialists to implement personalised support plans and behavioural strategies.
- Embrace opportunities for training and development, growing as part of a dedicated team.

- A genuine passion for working with children with SEMH, ideally with experience or a strong interest in this area.
- A proactive, compassionate, and supportive approach.
- Strong communication skills and an understanding of behaviour as a form of communication.
- Willingness to be a team player and to embrace new learning opportunities.
