About the Role
**Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Full-Time, Immediate Start**
Croydon, South East London
September 2024
£100 - £120 per day PAYE
Specialist Social Emotional and Mental Health School
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a Year 12 student with complex needs. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, proactive, and resilient, with a strong passion for supporting young people in a specialised setting.
The student requires support in the following areas

Acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, ADHD, and learning difficulties

Requires a calm, structured environment for both academic and social activities
-
Displays unpredictable and, at times, challenging behavior, including self-harm
-
Has a strong preference for interacting with adults and responds well to one-on-one support outside of the classroom

Enjoys activities such as role play, swimming, music, and spending time with his family
Key Responsibilities:

Provide consistent, personalised support to the student both in and out of the classroom

Assist in managing behaviours that may be challenging, ensuring the student’s safety and wellbeing
-
Create a calm and structured environment, minimising risks and distractions

Help the student engage with educational activities at a comfortable pace, adapting the curriculum where necessary

Facilitate positive social interactions, particularly with adults, while supporting gradual reintroduction to peer activities

Collaborate with other staff members to provide a tailored educational experience for the student
The ideal candidate will:

Have experience working with young people with complex needs, particularly in managing challenging behaviours
-
Be physically active, as the role may involve hands-on support and activities
-
Have the ability to remain calm under pressure and be adaptable in dynamic situations
-
Display excellent communication skills, particularly when building rapport with the student and working as part of a team
-
An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.
