Are you passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of students with special educational needs? We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic SEN Teacher to join our vibrant special school in Newham on a maternity cover contract, with the potential for a permanent position.
About the Role:
- Position: SEN Teacher (Maternity Cover)
- Start Date: March 2025
- Contract: Maternity cover with potential to go permanent
- Location: Newham, London
- Class Size: Small group of Year 7 - 9 students
- Needs: Students have autism and minor learning difficulties, and experience emotional dysregulation but do not display physical or behavioural challenges.
You will be responsible for teaching and supporting a small group of Year 7 to Year 9 students with autism and minor learning difficulties. These students may experience emotional dysregulation, but they do not exhibit significant behavioural issues. Your role will involve delivering a tailored curriculum, creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, and supporting their emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with students' individual needs.
- Foster a supportive, inclusive, and positive classroom atmosphere.
- Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and assess students' progress.
- Work closely with teaching assistants, support staff, and external professionals.
- Communicate effectively with parents and carers, keeping them informed about their child's progress.
- Promote emotional regulation strategies and support students' social-emotional development.
About You:
- Qualifications: QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) is essential.
- Experience working with students with autism and learning difficulties.
- Knowledge and understanding of emotional dysregulation in young people.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build strong relationships with students.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
