About the Role
1:1 Learning Support Assistant
Location: Newham, London
Position: 1:1 Learning Support Assistant
Salary: £85 - £95 per day
Start Date: immediate
Contract: Full-time, Term-time only
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to join our Additional Resource Provision (ARP) within a mainstream primary school in Newham. This role is perfect for someone passionate about working with children who have a range of special educational needs, including autism, sensory processing issues, complex needs, and speech and language difficulties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to students within the ARP and mainstream settings, ensuring they have access to a meaningful and inclusive learning experience.
- Assist children with sensory processing challenges, helping them to regulate and engage in classroom activities.
- Support students with autism and complex needs, using tailored strategies to promote their learning and development.
- Work with pupils who have speech and language difficulties, encouraging effective communication and understanding.
- Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and support the child’s academic, social, and emotional progress.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to deliver a cohesive support strategy.
- Ensure a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that meets the individual needs of the child.
- Support with transitions, behaviour management, and encourage independence where appropriate.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience working with children with SEN, particularly autism, sensory issues, and speech and language needs.
- Be patient, empathetic, and resilient, with a strong commitment to supporting pupils with complex needs.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be proactive, flexible, and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Be familiar with a range of interventions, visual aids, and communication methods such as PECS or Makaton (desirable but not essential).
- Hold a valid DBS check or be willing to undergo one.
