Can you be a role model to  young people with SEMH?

Do you have construction experience? 

 

We are looking for support staff to work with KS4 students within a PRU, this will be a class-based role supporting the behaviour of the learners. Their is a purpose built construction classroom that consists of a small group of students with behavioural needs, so they are looking for a strong role model. 

Requirements

● Experience working with young people with SEND and/or Autism, ADHD, sensory processing difficulties and learning difficulties or experience with SEMH, Trauma, Sensory processing, social communication

● Secondary Teaching Assistant / Learning Mentor / Youth Worker experience

● Ability to build strong and meaningful relationships

● A passion for working with SEND is essential

● Excellent experience and training for aspiring Teachers, Pastoral workers, Child Psychologists, Educational Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Counsellors, and Social Workers

I am working with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in the London Borough of Redbridge, which is seeking a dedicated Hair and Beauty Instructor. This a brand new purpose built Hair & Beauty Salon and you will be able to be a part of something new within this school which is a great opportunity for someone proactive and ready to make a difference. They cater to students aged 11-16 with SEMH needs who are unable to attend mainstream education. Your role will involve teaching and guiding these students through their BTEC Level 2 Hair and Beauty qualification, helping them develop essential vocational skills and personal growth. About the Role: As a Hair and Beauty Tutor in this specialist PRU, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and practical lessons to students with complex emotional and behavioural challenges. You will work closely with other staff members to support the students' academic and social development, providing a safe and nurturing environment that encourages positive learning. Key Responsibilities: Deliver BTEC Level 2 Hair and Beauty lessons tailored to meet the needs of students with SEMH difficulties. Provide practical and theoretical instruction, assessing student progress and ensuring they meet the BTEC course requirements. Work collaboratively with the wider SEMH team, helping to create a supportive, calm, and structured learning environment. Use your skills and knowledge to motivate and inspire students, helping them develop vocational skills while also supporting their emotional and behavioural development. Understand and manage challenging behaviour, using strategies to engage students effectively. What We Are Looking For: Experience teaching Hair and Beauty, ideally with BTEC Level 2 or similar vocational qualifications. A relevant Hair and Beauty qualification (a teaching qualification is desirable but not essential). Experience working with students with SEMH needs, or in a similar setting such as a PRU, would be advantageous. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with students. A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to teaching students with behavioural and emotional challenges. A passion for supporting vulnerable young people and helping them succeed both personally and academically. Therapeutic Mentor

Are you ready for a unique new challenge? This is an inspiring educational organisation that works across London. They have a no exclusion policy and support the hardest to reach, high risk and most vulnerable young people. This role is supporting young people who may have been out of formal education for several years and are unable at this time to cope with learning in a classroom. These young people may have an ASC and/or SEMH diagnosis, alongside complex additional needs. They may be at considerable risk of exploitation or been exposed to extreme violence and abuse in their homes. They need someone to help. Could this be you? They are looking for resilient and compassionate Outreach Therapeutic Mentors, your role will be supporting an extremely vulnerable young person on a 1:1 basis out in the community, maybe within their home or a local library, with the intent of helping them eventually over time become ready to be able to go into a specialist school setting and learn alongside their peers. This process starts with building a bond between you, most of these students will have gone through ACE’s (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and will have indicators of PTSD, trust needs to be earned over time. Once the trust is there you will be therapeutically supporting them with fully bespoke educational plans that suit their needs. This organisation has a high success rate in that young people are eventually are back in full time education or employment, and on top of that thriving, able to regulate their emotions and begin to process their trauma. An example of this is a young person with previous low school attendance, multiple exclusions, PTSD, and extremely aggressive behaviour. After being assigned a specialist mentor and working together, this young person has now transitioned to a specialist school, has a 93% attendance record, is part of restorative groups helping him to process his trauma and is thriving with a bespoke curriculum.
