Salary: £90 - £110 per day
Start Date: 4th November
Contract: Full-time, Term-time only

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people facing social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges? Do you have experience working with children who have experienced trauma, and those with special educational needs (SEN), including autism and speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN)? If so, we are always looking for people like you!

We are looking for a Behaviour Mentor to work at a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Newham starting after October half term. Our school adopts a holistic and therapeutic approach, practising a trauma-informed model to support students with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH, trauma, and SEN, helping them develop coping strategies and positive behaviours.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support their emotional well-being and academic progress.
  • Implement therapeutic interventions and trauma-informed approaches to foster a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Work closely with students who have SEN, including autism and speech and language communication needs, tailoring support to meet individual requirements.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and external professionals to create and maintain behaviour management plans.
  • Monitor student progress and report on behavioural, emotional, and social development.
  • Support students in developing resilience, self-esteem, and positive relationships with peers and staff.
  • Assist with the transition of students back into mainstream education where appropriate.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with young people with SEMH, trauma, and SEN, particularly in a PRU or similar setting.
  • Be knowledgeable about trauma-informed practices and therapeutic approaches.
  • Be patient, empathetic, and resilient, with a strong understanding of the challenges faced by students with complex needs.
  • Have excellent communication and de-escalation skills.
  • Be proactive, flexible, and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Hold a relevant qualification in education, mental health, or behaviour support (desirable but not essential).
  • Hold a valid DBS check or be willing to undergo one.
