Job Title: Reception SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Mainstream Primary School, Newham, London
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
Salary: £90 - £95 per day

Our vibrant, inclusive mainstream primary school in Newham is dedicated to creating a supportive and nurturing learning environment for all our students. We are passionate about helping every child reach their full potential, especially those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join our Reception class, providing specialized support to students who display Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and other additional needs.
The Role:
As a Reception SEND Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting students in their academic, social, and emotional development. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to deliver tailored interventions and strategies that promote inclusion and positive behavior. Your role will involve one-to-one and small group work, assisting with classroom tasks, and helping to manage behavior in a way that supports each child’s unique needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH, ASC, and other additional needs.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior management strategies.
- Support the class teacher in creating an inclusive learning environment.
- Help students to develop their social skills and emotional regulation.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to support student progress.
- Support students in both structured classroom activities and unstructured times such as break times and transitions.
- Foster positive relationships with students, promoting independence, confidence, and resilience.
Person Specification:
- Experience working with children with SEMH, ASC, and other additional needs in a school setting is essential.
- A strong understanding of SEND and knowledge of behavior management strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
- Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
- Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent are desirable.
- A positive, proactive approach and a commitment to the well-being of students.
