I am actively recruiting Positive Behaviour Support Assistants for a Special School in Newham, East London. This school provides specialised education and positive behaviour support for pupils with Autism (ASC) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). This specialised role requires a candidate with an understanding of Autism and an appreciation of positive behaviour support.
The Day to Day of a Positive Behaviour Support Assistant -
- Supporting in classes as assigned
- Observing pupils and keeping records
- Calling parents and writing up incidents on behaviour watch
- Attending school CPD, briefings etc
- Answering calls when a student is dysregulated.
- Supporting students 1:1 when dysregulated
- Making resources such as now and next boards

- Understanding and experienced working with pupils with autism and severe learning difficulty
- Appreciating of positive behaviour support methods

About You:

Experience teaching students with SEMH, behavioural challenges, and engagement issues is essential.
A creative and flexible approach to teaching, with the ability to inspire and motivate students who may struggle with traditional learning environments

In this role, you will work closely with families to help them understand their child’s unique needs and empower them to navigate available support systems with confidence and compassion.
Key Responsibilities:
Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with families from diverse ethnic backgrounds, ensuring they feel understood, supported, and valued.
Act as a key point of contact for parents and carers, offering guidance on their child’s SEND or SEMH needs.
Communicate clearly and compassionately with families, using a variety of methods including face-to-face meetings, phone calls, and written communication.
Liaise with professionals such as teachers, social workers, and healthcare providers to ensure holistic support for each child.

Requirements:

A deep understanding of the challenges faced by families from ethnic minority backgrounds, with a compassionate and culturally sensitive approach.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and effectively.
Ability to work collaboratively with both families and professionals in a multidisciplinary environment.
A proactive, empathetic, and non-judgmental attitude.
Ability to manage a caseload and work flexibly to meet the needs of the families.
