Do you want to support SEMH children as a Teaching Assistant?
We have a great opportunity to support SEMH students at a secondary school in the Mitcham area. With great outdoor space, onsite parking for staff, newly refurbished indoor areas and excellent facilities to support the students and encourage growth and education, this is a great place to support the young students.
As a teaching assistant you will be working in a classroom environment alongside various supportive and friendly staff within the primary school. In this role, you will need to support a wide range of students, including students who may have challenging behaviour, pupils with autism, anxiety and some who may have trauma. Having some experience within a SEND or SEMH role is desirable as the environment can be volatile and de-escalation is sometimes required. The successful applicant will start at 8:30 am and finish the school day at 4:30 pm latest. Onsite parking is available, and you will be working within the newly refurbished buildings on the school grounds alongside other supportive and friendly staff.
What are we looking for in a SEND Teaching Assistant:
- Phonics experience (any programme) is essential
- A caring and nurturing attitude
- Good understanding of a SEND Environment
- Proactive and confident using own initiative
- Ability to de-escalate challenging behaviour
- Encouraging positive social development
- Previous Teaching Assistant or support experience (desirable but not essential)
