About the Role

Maternity Cover - SEND Science Teacher

South London – Southwark/Lambeth

Permanent Position

£30,000 to £58,000

Monday to Friday

08:15 to 15:15

Are you an unqualified Teacher looking to take their next step within the industry and gain their QTS whilst doing so?

We are working with an Ofsted Outstanding school to find a science teacher to teach for until summer, working with SEMH students. Within this role you will be teaching 6 – 8 students whilst teaching alongside a partner qualified teacher. You and your partner teacher will both run the class how you see fit, with one of you leading a lesson whilst the other takes a step back, and vise-vera. This gives you complete control over how the class is run, allowing you both to teach the subjects you like or are strongest at, with availability within the primary or secondary sites.

The unique way the school is run means there is half the marking and planning you get in a traditional teaching position which has extremely positive feedback from existing staff. Alongside this staff are not expected in before or after their start time, with some staff staying behind to plan with their partner teacher, and others going home and planning/marking via video call. They also provide training to all staff via external sources as well as by their own internal teams such as their extensive therapy team, including Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Art Therapists and school counsellors & psychologists.

The students at the school all have SEMH needs, with availability at all their sites ranging from KS1 to KS4. The role is challenging due to the nature of the needs so they are looking for someone with resilience, and experience with either SEMH or challenging behaviour. Though they are willing to take on staff from mainstream environments with the right experience.

So, if this opportunity sounds like something you would be interested in, why not apply today?

Brief overview:

  • Unqaulified SEMH SEND Teacher
  • Ability to gain QTS via assessment only route whilst working at the school
  • Two professionals working together to manage one class
  • £30000-£58000 (depending on experience)
  • Location: Southeast London
  • SEMH therapeutic school for children with a diagnosis of Social Emotional Mental Health
  • Continued Professional Development - paid for (up to 100%) by the school
