About the Role

Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - SEMH and ASD Support

Location: Newham

Start Date: As Soon As Possible

Salary: £110 - £125 per day PAYE

Contract Type: Long-term with the possibility of permanency after two terms.

The Role

I am looking for a compassionate and skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with specialist experience in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting the learning and development of three specific pupils who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Your expertise will help create tailored strategies to support their growth academically and personally. You will work closely with class teachers, teaching assistants, and a speech and language therapist to implement effective interventions.

Your role will truly empower these young learners to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and ASD.
  • Develop and implement individualized learning plans and targeted interventions.
  • Collaborate with class teachers and support staff to foster an inclusive learning environment.
  • Build strong relationships with parents/carers, promoting open communication about pupils' well-being.
  • Work alongside specialists, such as a speech and language therapist, to deliver holistic support.
  • Contribute to the development of the school's SEN provision through your insights and expertise.
  • Maintain detailed records of pupil progress and interventions for continuous improvement.
  • Potentially deliver training to other staff members, sharing your knowledge and mentoring others.

About the Pupils

  • Student 1; has SEMH challenges and requires enhanced emotional regulation support. He benefits from a reliable relationship with staff who are committed to his trust and growth. -
  • Student 2; has ASD and significant sensory processing needs that require a candidate to be strong in regards to boundaries, can become dysregulated therefore de-escalation techniques are beneficial, he also requires support with speech and communication. 
  • Student 3; displays similar needs of student 1.
