Are you an experienced and passionate English educator with a track record of raising standards in challenging settings? We are seeking an inspiring English Curriculum Lead to join our all through SEMH School in Hackney from January 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead the delivery of English, supporting both students and staff in achieving excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the English curriculum, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning across all year groups.
  • Teach English to students with a range of abilities, including those with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Support the professional development of teaching staff by delivering in-class training, conducting observations, and providing constructive feedback.
  • Offer 1:1 mentoring and coaching to staff to improve their teaching practices and subject knowledge.
  • Develop and implement strategies to raise student achievement in English, addressing gaps in learning and promoting student engagement.
  • Collaborate with other curriculum leads and the senior leadership team to ensure a cohesive approach to education across the PRU.
  • Ensure that the English curriculum is accessible and tailored to meet the individual needs of students, many of whom have experienced trauma, SEMH challenges, and special educational needs (SEN).
  • Monitor and assess progress, providing targeted interventions and support where needed.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have qualified teacher status (QTS) with significant experience teaching English, preferably in a PRU or similar setting.
  • Be an excellent classroom practitioner with a proven ability to raise standards in English, even in challenging contexts.
  • Have experience leading curriculum development and improving teaching practices.
  • Be skilled in mentoring and coaching staff, with a focus on professional growth and reflective practice.
  • Have a deep understanding of the needs of students with SEMH and SEN, and be able to adapt the curriculum accordingly.
  • Be committed to using a trauma-informed approach to support students’ academic and emotional well-being.
  • Have strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
