The Role
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Early Years Teaching Assistant with experience working with children with complex needs and non-verbal autism. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our youngest learners, helping them to develop socially, emotionally, and academically.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized support to children with complex needs and non-verbal autism in the Early Years setting.
- Assist with the implementation of personalized learning plans and interventions.
- Use alternative communication methods, such as PECS or Makaton, to support non-verbal children.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to monitor and review each child's progress.
- Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
- Assist with personal care needs, if required.
- Engage children in play-based learning activities to promote their development.
- Communicate effectively with parents/carers, providing regular updates on their child's progress and any concerns.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
Requirements
- Experience working with children with complex needs and non-verbal autism, preferably in an Early Years setting.
- A minimum of Level 2 qualification in Childcare.
- Knowledge of alternative communication methods, such as PECS or Makaton, is highly desirable.
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
