Are you a passionate and empathetic Counsellor looking to make a positive impact in the lives of young people? A reputable school in Wandsworth is recruiting for a dedicated and qualified Counsellor to join its Therapy team and provide essential support for students with special educational needs.
About the Role
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you’ll work closely with Speech and Language Therapists and other professionals to deliver tailored therapeutic support to students. This role would suit someone with experience in a special needs environment, but we also encourage applications from newly qualified Counsellors ready to bring fresh energy and commitment to this important role. Reporting to the Therapy Manager, you will help create a safe, structured environment where young people aged 9–19 can thrive academically and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate your own caseload, implementing personalised EHCP/treatment plans.
- Plan and deliver interventions for individual or group therapy, focusing on students with mild to moderate autism spectrum disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome, and associated learning challenges.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to annual review processes.
- Build and sustain close working relationships with teaching and support staff to ensure therapy aligns with the school’s ethos and statutory regulations.
- Promote therapy services within the school to support business growth and reach personal targets.
- Facilitate training for school staff in line with EHCP requirements.
- Deliver ad hoc counselling sessions as needed to meet urgent student needs.
About You
- Qualifications: Current membership with BACP, UKCP, or equivalent accrediting body.
- Experience: Experience with CBT is desirable but not essential.
- Commitment to CPD: Willing to complete CPD as required by your accrediting body, and to attend regular supervision.
- Communication: Strong communication skills to effectively engage students, staff, carers, and stakeholders.
