We are working with a beautiful SEN school based in Ealing. The school is looking to appoint a passionate individual to join the school as an Autism Teaching Assistant, supporting across a variety of year groups and abilities. This position is perfect for someone who is an aspiring Education Psychologist, Child Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Physio Therapist, and many more! This position is also perfect for someone with family members or friends who have additional needs and want to get into SEN settings for personal interests.

What are you expected to do as an Autism Teaching Assistant?

  • Supporting pupils in classroom settings 
  • Participating and engaging in school trips and other extra-curricular activities
  • Assisting the class teacher with planning, preparing, and delivering learning activities, as well as monitoring and assessing children’s achievement and progress
  • Working closely with the school's multi-disciplinary team and parents/ family members/ carers
  • Actively getting involved in a wide range of activities, promoting the physical, cognitive, cultural, social, and emotional well-being of the pupils
  • Actively interacting with children through play-based and sensory-related activities

Some of our pupils have Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN), and some are non-verbal. Some pupils have complex medical needs and mobility issues. You may also experience physical behavioural challenges that are associated with the needs. Being able to use Makaton, Signalong or PECs is ideal. Personal Care (feeding and toileting) and hydrotherapy are required as this is a part of the job.

 

Requirements for Autism Teaching Assistant

  • Anyone passionate about SEN
  • Anyone with personal interests in supporting children and young people with learning disabilities
  • A positive, proactive, and patient individual who has a can-do attitude and is willing to learn
  • A team player and has great communication skills
  • Being able to build good working relationships with students and staff
